The Explorer Unit

The Explorer Unit is part of the Tonbridge District Scouts but is linked to the 14th Tonbridge Sea Scouts to provide specialist water activities for its members. The Unit's objective is to provide an interesting, appealing, varied and challenging programme for its members, with an emphasis on increasing the young people's responsibility for running their own Unit. The programme has a water actvities bias, particularly over summer, but Explorer Scouts also go flying in the Kent Scouts Microlight and participate in land based activities throughout the year.

The Unit has its own Headquarters Building with changing facilities and landing stage, although winter meetings take place at the Weir View HQ. As with the Scout Section its core activities are Sailing, Powerboating, Canoeing, Rowing, Rafting and Yachting, but a typical year may also include microlighting, dry slope skiing, scuba diving, rock climbing, karting and many other activities.

Explorer Scouts are encouraged to assist the Group Leadership Team with running the younger sections.
